Printify overview

printify website

Printify is a print on demand drop shipping app that you can use to sell T-shirts, hoodies, mugs and other custom goods in an online store under your own brand name. Printify will print, pack and ship products for you.

Printify’s main advantage is product pricing. As you will see in this Printify review, this company really makes sure that its production costs are lower than its competitors’.

Another great thing is the choice of products and printing facilities. Printify connects you to a huge network of print providers in the US, Europe and China, so you can choose where you prefer your products to be printed.

However, for some online business owners Printify isn’t the ideal choice. The print quality is not as consistent as with Printful (read full Printful review), plus you can’t customise Printify’s orders by adding personal messages, flyers or business cards to the packages.

Printify Review: An Overview

Who Should Use Printify? And Who Should Avoid It?

Printify is a print-on-demand platform that enables individuals, businesses, and entrepreneurs to create and sell their custom merchandise without having to invest in inventory or manage production themselves.

Printify can be a good fit for:

  1. Small business owners and entrepreneurs who want to offer unique merchandise to their customers without having to invest in inventory or manage production themselves.
  2. Graphic designers who want to turn their designs into products that can be sold through an online store.
  3. Artists who want to offer their artwork on products like t-shirts, mugs, and phone cases.
  4. Bloggers and influencers who want to create their own merchandise to sell to their audience.
  5. Non-profits and charities who want to create merchandise to support their cause.

However, Printify may not be the best fit for:

  1. Large companies that need high-volume production or require complex product customization options.
  2. Individuals or businesses that want complete control over the production process or prefer to work directly with manufacturers.
  3. Anyone who requires fast turnaround times or guarantees on delivery dates, as the printing and shipping process can be unpredictable at times.

Ultimately, whether Printify is a good fit for you depends on your specific needs and goals. It’s important to do your research and consider your options before deciding on a print-on-demand platform.

Printify pricing

Quick Answer: Printify’s prices are among the best on the market. In Printify’s catalog you’ll find the cheapest T-shirts and hoodies.

My favorite thing about Printify is the product pricing.

Printify is very competitive in terms of pricing, so many of its products are priced considerably lower than its competitors’. Printify is the perfect POD company to choose if your primary concern is the profit margin.

Let’s compare Printify’s and Printful’s pricing of some popular products side by side. For the sake of comparison I used these 3 products:

ProductPrintify PricePrintful Price
Unisex Staple T-Shirt | Bella + Canvas 3001from $9.38$14.25
Unisex Heavy Blend Hoodie | Gildan 18500from $20.15$23.75
White Glossy Mugfrom $5.00$7.75
Printify vs. Printful Pricing

Some say that Printify’s low prices come at the expense of print quality. I wouldn’t quite agree with this.

Printify’s print providers are huge factories, all of which maintain high quality standards. However, there might be differences in quality because every print provider is an independent company with its own production and quality assurance processes.

When it comes to colours, in my experience, Printify prints turn out slightly more faded and  less saturated than Printful’s. This really depends on the print provider, though.

If your designs are text-based, you are usually safe. If you print a lot of bright colours, make sure you order a sample to see how the colours turn out.

Printify products

Quick Answer: Printify has 800+ products and product choice is growing all the time. You can use 2 standard printing techniques: DTG (direct to garment) and AOP (all over print), as well as embroidery.

Printify offers a broad selection of products you can print on. Currently there are 800+ products.

In fact, product catalog is growing really fast, because Printify is teaming up with more and more production facilities. When I checked Printify a couple of years ago, they had just 250 products. Now there’s 3 times more.

If you sign up to their newsletter or follow Printify on social media, you’ll get updates and marketing tips for every new product.

printify new products

Here’s the best thing about Printify’s product choice. Some of the items are unique and unavailable from Printify’s competitors. For example, you won’t find shower curtains, pets beds, wall tapestries, tumblers or hooded blankets with Printify’s main competitor Printful.

So, if you follow the latest product launches, you can surprise your customers with awesome and eye-catching items.

Printify fulfillment methods

Printify offers DTG printing, Embroidery and All-over printing (AOP)methods to print designs on their products.

These are the standard printing methods for print on demand companies, and all of them offer pretty much the same fulfillment options.

Branding options

Printify lets you print your logo on the inner and outer label areas, as well as on the sleeves of T-shirts.

It’s a great way to create a stronger, more memorable brand. However, not all print providers do this, and each new print area costs extra.

Compared to Printful, Printify’s branding options are very limited. If you are looking for a POD company that prints and embroiders logos on various garment areas, as well as adds your stickers or business cards to the order, Printful is definitely the best choice.

Samples

Quick Answer: Printify doesn’t offer any discounts on sample orders.

Samples are essential.

Ordering samples is the only way you can check the quality of the garment and be 100% sure that your print looks great in real life.

POD beginners tend to overlook the fact that mockup files provided by Printify are just illustrations, they cannot display all the potential print issues. For example, your print file could be pixellated, colors might be too bright for the printer, there could be transparency issues.

Samples help you understand the print quality, make improvements to the design file, see the fit.

If you have samples, you are competent about your products and are able to answer customers’ questions.

With Printify, you can order as many samples as you like for the regular production cost, plus shipping. No sample discounts are available.

If you subscribe to Printify Premium for $24.99 per month, you’ll get a 20% discount on all products, including samples.

Printify production and shipping

Quick Answer: Printify doesn’t print goods itself. Instead, it works with numerous printing facilities around the globe to fulfil your orders. Usually production takes 2-3 days.

Print Providers

Printify gives you the opportunity to work with 80+ different printing companies, called print providers, in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Czech Republic, Latvia, China, and other countries.

When you visit Printify Catalog, you can sort products by print providers. This is an easy way to discover available products in specific locations.

Duplium, for example, fulfils orders in Canada and offers 37 different products.

printify print providers

Since the choice of print providers is so vast, Printify has created handy comparison tables to make your choices easier.

You can evaluate print providers, based on product price, shipping price, size variety, average production time, printing areas and product base colors.

printify providers comparison

TIP: You can use as many print providers in a single store as you wish. For example, you can print tees with Monster Digital, mugs with SPOKE and phone cases with WOYC. It’s also possible to use different POD companies in a single store, for example, Printify and Printful.

Production time

Production time differs among print providers. Printify states that production usually takes 2-7 business days (this doesn’t include shipping time).

Check out average production time for more precise estimates. You’ll see that most print providers tend to fulfil orders within a 2-4 day range.

Shipping time and costs

Shipping time and costs depend on the print provider and the product you are selling.

Honestly, comparing shipping rates is a time-consuming process. You’ll have to open Shipping rates page and click on each print provider to discover the rates.

Unfortunately, there’s no tool that would let you compare shipping rates by print provider, destination country or product type. Domestic US shipping of a single T-shirt costs around $5 with most print providers.

Printify Review: Support & Policies

Quick Answer: You can contact Printify via chat or e-mail 24/7. In addition, Printify Help Center has a wealth of technical information and tips for using the platform.

24/7 Support

Printify’s support team works 24/7 via chat and e-mail.

Before you write, though, check if your question hasn’t already been addressed in Printify Help Center.

Personally, Help Center articles have been amazing at answering simple questions about the app integrations, payments, billing, print providers.

In addition, Printify publishes so much valuable information for POD beginners. Printify Blog is a great source of design ideas and marketing trends. Check out Printify Youtube if you prefer video format.

Returns Policy

Production mistakes

Printify doesn’t accept returns unless there’s been a production mistake.

If your customer receives a product that has a bad quality print, wrong print, incorrect print location or any other issue, Printify will reprint the item free of charge. All you have to do is fill in an order issue submission form and provide pictures of the faulty product.

I’ve had print issues several times, and the communication about reprints went really smoothly. It took around 3 days to produce a replacement item for my customer.

Wrong size or color

If your customer has ordered a product in the wrong size or color, has changed his/her mind or simply doesn’t like the product, Printify won’t accept returns or exchanges.

This is because all items are unique and print providers don’t stock unwanted items.

Wrong address

As soon as an order is sent to production with Printify, you can’t change delivery details, nor cancel the order. Printify is not responsible for such mistakes and won’t offer replacements or refunds.

Content Policy

Printify has a Quality Check process, in which all new and updated products have to go through inspection before you can print them.

Quality Check takes up to 12 hours. If there are any quality or copyright issues, production will be put on hold and you will be notified by e-mail.

You can print anything that doesn’t infringe on the intellectual property of others and that doesn’t contain abusive content.

Printify Review: Payments

Quick Answer: You can use PayPal to add a deposit to your Printify account, or a credit card for automatic payments.

Billing

Printify offers 2 payment methods:

  • You can transfer a balance from a PayPal account. As soon as you’ve used all of the balance, you’ll have to top it up manually.
  • You can connect a credit card. Printify will charge your card in USD every time an order is sent to production. Note that you cannot change the currency. If your bank account is set in any other currency, charges will be processed in accordance with the exchange rates provided by your bank.

There are no hidden fees with Printify. You don’t have to pay any membership fees (unless you choose Printify Premium for $24.99 a month), and you are only charged when Printify sends an order to production.

Printify Alternatives

Quick Answer: Printify’s main competitors are Printful, Gooten, and TeeLaunch. Printful tends to be more reliable in terms of quality, while Gooten’s strength is the broad selection of unique products.

printify vs printful vs gooten
  1. Printful: One of the most popular and established print-on-demand companies that offers a wide range of products and services.
  2. Gooten: A print-on-demand company that provides a wide range of products and functions much like Printify—it’s a network of printing companies around the world.
  3. Teelaunch: Teelaunch is a print-on-demand platform that specializes in custom printing for apparel, accessories, and home decor. Teelaunch’s suppliers are mostly US-based.
